Caleb Takes Care of Sammy
Caleb has been doing a great job with his new Big Brother role. While we were at my parents house, my mom and I caught Caleb taking his own bare hand and wiping spit-up off Sammy’s chin. After examining what was on his hand, he wiped it off on his pants and then (after realizing it was kinda gross) took Sammy’s bib and wiped the rest of his chin clean. After he cleaned off his brother for me, he went to his train table and began to play. My mom and I walked over to him and I told him how proud I was that he was such a good big brother. Caleb then said “mama, dada and gama proud.” “yes, buddy – mama, dada and grandma are all very proud of you for being such a good big brother.” I always enjoy spying on him, but this time was particularly fun …and I was happy to have someone else “catch him”doing something great with me. :)
We had a really nice time at my parents house. Caleb played a lot with Amy - she had Friday off work and I think she spent the whole day with us, which was really nice. We had a fun lunch at Casey’s pub (Caleb ate a ton…he gives the restaurant 4 stars) and he played lots of trains/cars with grandpa, he read books and followed grandma around the house (he also liked everything she made him to eat), he helped me scold Millie and he had a blast playing with Calian and Brayden. He also had to show everyone that his Uncle Dave taught him how to “do knuckles” (knuckle version of high-five).
He was asking about Calian and Brayden again today. He also asked if he could play “spider” with Gampa. I told him he could in a few days…apparently, my version of “Spider” isn’t as fun as grandpa’s.
While at grandma’s house, he had a playdate with his friend Jack, who is just a month younger than he is. My girlfriend, Dana also had another recent addition to her family (see pics) …she had a baby girl (Julia) and it was really fun getting together with them so I could meet Julia, see my friend and let the boys play trains/matchbox cars together. Her parents came over as well – I was always close to them too, and it was fun for both our parents to see our kids together.
We got home Sunday afternoon and about an hour after we were back, our friends – the Oblons came over w/ their twin girls and 1 year old son. It was fun to hang out with them and let the kids play…they always play so nicely together. Monday was a holiday and although Justin had the day off, he had a lot of homework to do…though we all made a trip to Costco together and he still managed to play trains and cars w/ Caleb.
Caleb continues to amaze me with his vocabulary. He clearly speaks in full sentences and he likes to use big words. Today he said “Caleb move mama’s shoes under couch. Now Caleb play cars.” Apparently they were in his way. Sorry Caleb…but thanks for cleaning up after me. J He was on the stairs earlier today and said that something was “we-dick-oh-lus” (ridiculous). He also thinks things are “unbeweavable” (unbelievable). He often tells me “when dada come home he yells yippee” and today he started singing “Yes Jesus Loves Me” and then told me that “dada like dat song”. Before we even went to my parents house, he was talking to Justin about going to grandma’s and said “millie doggie run around in kitchen and gampa say lay down” I was amazed that he even remembered and wondered what triggered that memory…but am proud he could say what he is thinking (and remembering). He remembers things very well and you can tell when he’s really thinking of something. When we were at my parents house, he was eating dinner and randomly said “Caleb see Kimmy and Dawnie and Libby” (who are my friends that were at my place for the shower a few weeks ago). I’m glad he likes (and remembers) my friends. :) ha!
So today Sammy is 2 months old. It is also Uncle Chris’s Birthday today. I was going to put the boys in birthday hats and take their picture for Chris, but could only find New Years hats in the house. Ha! Caleb says “happy birfday Chwish”…and Sammy just smiled…and then spit up alittle. ;)
