Holiday Fun

Crafty Sam

We had a busy but fun-filled weekend. Justin had been gone the majority of the week and didn't get home until late Friday night. The boys were thrilled to see him Saturday morning. Caleb actually couldn't wait any longer to see him....he insisted on waking him up at 8:00am. The kids got good "daddy time" while I went Christmas shopping in the afternoon. When I returned, we all went out to eat and then we headed to the mall to see Santa Claus. Caleb and Sam were sooooo excited to see him and naturally, they both talked to him ALOT (no line to see him, so I didn't feel bad). Sam asked him alot of questions (e.g. where is Mrs. Claus, why is there fur on your coat, why are your boots black...blah blah). Caleb, on the other hand, was not fooled by this Santa (who, btw, was REALLY good). When the boys walked up to him Santa asked what their names are. Sammy blurted out "Sam" and Caleb looked at him like he was crazy and said 'well, you know what my name is!?!?" As we were walking away Caleb laughed and said "Santa was trying to trick me -- he knows who I am but still asked me what my name is. He can't trick me." Santa also told the boys to stop fighting with each other and not to talk back to mom & dad. When we were walking to the car Justin said something about how Santa must have been watching them since he knew they had been fighting. This may have had Sam all wide-eyed, but not Caleb....his response to that "I really don't think he saw that - - he is just guessing." Is this what most 4 year olds think??

Izzy was not as interested in Santa as the boys were...in fact, she screamed the second we put her on his lap. Hope she still gets presents.

After our visit with Santa,we headed to my parents. Mary & Dick (my mom's cousin) are visiting and Justin & I always enjoy seeing them. The boys remembered them and were equally excited to see them and hang out w/ grandma & grandpa again. Casey was over as well...watching the Nebraska game.

Today, we dropped Izzy off at my parents so we could take the boys to a Holiday Celebration at the Art Center. It was a REALLY nice party....very yummy food, cool crafts, great live music, and story time. Given that it was at the art center, you know there would be very creative crafts to do...they had 3 rooms set up with different crafts - and what I like about all the crafts is that none of them would be taken home and thrown away...you could make plates, purses, ornaments, vases...etc. Adults were crafting away as well, not just the kids! Anyway, we went into Caleb's preschool room and the boys made a decoupage plate. They turned out great and the boys were very proud of their work.

We spent time at home playing this afternoon and then we headed back to my parent's house for a very good meal (chicken and noodles...made of course with homemade noodles...ultimate comfort food). The whole family was there (along w/ Mary & Dick) so the boys were as happy as could be. Izzy was equally happy...she had good food in front of her and she was able to sit facing Calian and Brayden, who she flirted with the entire meal. Seriously, she would take a bite and then sing/dance to get Calian's attention. When he would look at her she would give him her best smile and then do her billy goat laugh. If he went too long without looking at her, she would scream at him...in between bites,of course.
