A Winter Wonderland
...makes a perfect Playland. Seriously, my boys are LOVING all the snow here. And I must say, I am enjoying it too. As long as the temperature is above 20 degrees I am happy to put on my winter gear and head outside with them. Today it was about 30 degrees, no wind and lots of snow..so we were outside ALOT today. So fun. I was actually HOT outside, and instead of coming inside for a cup of hot chocolate, I kept a cold drink in the refrigerator in our garage.
Sam is a worker outside. He spent the last 20 minutes playing with Caleb in the snow, but he is usually found pushing his "snow plow" around - making tracks and literally cleaning up snow. He will typically pick up a shovel as soon as he sees me or Justin with one in hand. He is such a busy kid - loves "working".
Caleb, on the other hand, is happy to push the snow plow around, but also spends just as much time making snow angels, making forts, sliding down snow hills, and eating snow. He is much more into "playing" and really experiencing the snow.
Thinking about how different they are outside in the snow reminds me of our doctor's appointment yesterday. They ALL went in for more flu shots (2nd dose of H1N1 and finally they received the seasonal flu shot)...not a fun visit - for them or for me. Anyway, the boys could not have been more different during this visit.
Entering the room with the very friendly nurse:
Sam: is shy, looks down and quietly tells her (w/o her asking) that he is three years old, nervously swings his foot.
Caleb: tells her all about his hat, how happy he is to be there, hops on the table and proceeds to tell her about the last time they were all in that same room. (deep breath)
Nurse ready to give shots:
Caleb: screams his HEAD OFF, kicks his legs, won't let me get his pants down. He begs Sammy to go first.
Sammy goes first.
Sam: quietly goes to the table, hops up, doesn't say a word, let's me take his pants down w/o any resistance, lays back with his eyes open wide...and then cries when the shot goes in. Poor guy...tried so hard to be brave - I'm so proud of him.
Caleb: Still screams his head off UNTIL the shot goes in....then he can't believe that was it....and then he laughs about it and tells the nurse that if she needs to give him another one, that it would be okay b/c it didn't even hurt.
Could they be any different??
